'Tis the season for giving, and we're so excited to announce the launch of our Artists Giving Back program. We partner with local artists and donate 10% of our profits from those items to the cause or charity of their choosing. It's a great way to promote local artists who are doing their part to encourage living a conscious lifestyle by sharing their amazing, one of a kind art with our customers all over the globe. As an effort to bring more conscious fashion and lifestyle awareness to the midwest, we've started our initiative close to home and our hearts, in Grand Rapids, MI.
The first artist to be featured is the very talented writer and graphic designer, Emily Bode of Brave Girl Design and Blog. Her writing has been featured Driftless Magazine, Yellow Blog, and course in her own amazing blog, Brave Girl. She creates carefully handcrafted branding materials such as logos, as well as custom hand lettering that help encourage living a more conscious lifestyle. She designs with a balance of logic and beauty, and her style is fairly minimal with a lot of warm, neutral tones. One of the best things I love about her blog and conscious efforts is that she helps to inspire and teach other designers by sharing her skill set and encouraging a healthy way to grow professionally.
Emily's 3 prints, exclusive to Joon + Co., are all available at joonandco.com. They make amazing gifts for the holidays, and fit perfectly into an 11x14 frame with mat, or 8x10 without.
If you know Emily, as many do in West Michigan, you know that she's a bright, cheerful personality, with a warm, inviting smile that you won't soon forget. With roots in Bay City, MI, on the East side of the state, she selected the Bay Area Women's Center to receive the portion of proceeds from her sales through Joon + Co.
Our major objective is to create a comprehensive community response to domestic violence and sexual assault through emergency shelter and counseling services, advocacy, and violence prevention education.
The Bay Area Women's Centerprovides free services to those in need of help and recovery from domestic abuse. They believe that every person has the right to live free of fear, which frankly, is something we all should believe in. Founded in 1975, a small group of women with a passion for this philosophy banded together and created this amazing non-profit group. They service mainly Bay and Arenac counties in Michigan, however some mid-Michigan folks have started taking refuge at their 32-bed facility. They've served over 15,000 men, women, and children, and are truly improving the area's domestic abuse problems.
If you're in the area, they hold some pretty fabulous events such as the Power of the Purse event where they auction off over 500 purses to benefit their cause. Tickets are only $30, and it honestly sounds like a super fun time with food, drinks, and networking..only #surroundedbypurses which is a pretty amazing thing to be surrounded by. You can also volunteer here.
If you aren't in the area, you can donate here, and help us in our mission to share our artists' incredible work while giving back to communities all over the world. Also, if giving back is something you're particularly interested in, check out our Community Driven collection of pieces that when purchased contribute money, aid, and education to global and local communities in need.
